They say that the best things in life come when you least expect them. This couldn’t be truer than in the case of Nyree Thompson, an Atlantic City resident who was playing casino slots on Saturday morning, February 3rd, in Resorts Atlantic City, when the baby she was carrying decided it was time.
32-year-old Thompson was 8 months pregnant when she went into labor on Resorts Atlantic City’s casino floor around 9:30 in the morning.
When she was interviewed by The Press of Atlantic City, Thompson said that she initially thought she had only been experiencing gas. However, after she went to the restroom, she decided to inform a guard that she might be giving birth. Thompson added that the security guard thought that she was joking, until her water broke.
According to Thompson, “A guard came over and said, ‘don’t push,’. I said, ‘Forget you, this baby is coming right now.'”
Just a few minutes later, she gave birth to a baby boy named Qualeem.
4 security guards helped Thompson deliver her baby, wrapping Qualeem in a jacket until paramedics arrived, said Steve Callender, VP of Operations.
The mother and son were taken to the hospital soon afterwards. Thompson stated that although Qualeem was premature, he is doing fine.
